NEW DELHI: Concerned by "religion inspired violence", the Vishwa Hindu Parishad has shot off a letter to 13 Muslim organisations requesting them to
issue a fatwa declaring India as a friend of Islam, 'Dar-Ul-Amn', against which 'jihad' should not be waged.

VHP's Dharm Raksha Manch, a congregation of seers which issued the letter, has asked Ulemas to state clearly that Hindus are not `kafirs' and therefore `jihad' does not apply to the community.

The letter cites examples from the emails released by the terrorist group `Indian Mujahideen' citing religious dictum justifying the terror attacks on Ahmedabad and Delhi.

Asking Muslim scholars to clear such misconceptions, the letter said they should "issue a fatwa declaring that India is not Dar-Ul-Haram i.e. a country against which Muslims must launch a religious war, rather India is Dar-Ul-Amen, a land of peace where all Muslims can practice and propagate their religion uninterrupted."

Addressed to Muslim intellectuals, leaders and Ulemas the letter states "The Dharm Raksha Manch is particularly concerned that Islamic scriptures have served as the inspiration behind these attacks, and concerned that the same might occur again in the future".

The Manch issued the letter to the All India Milli Council, Dar-Ul-Ulum, Deoband, Tabligh Jamaat, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, All India Organisation of Imams of Mosques among others.

The missive also seeks that the fatwa mentions in clear terms that all those who do not abide by these facts will not be termed a "true Muslim".

"We are expecting the said organisations will respond to this appeal in a positive manner. We firmly believe that till the time Islamic leaders do not condemn religion inspired violence, terrorism in this country will not come to an end," VHP International President and member of the Dharm Raksha Manch, Ashok Singhal, said.

"If Islam is a religion of peace, as they propagate, then we expect them to issue a fatwa clearing these views," he said.

The Manch also released a 11-point agenda that includes declaring India as a "spiritual nation", construction of a fitting Ram temple in Ayodhya, and declaring bovines, Ganges and Ram Sethu as crucial to the nation's cultural heritage.

It s a good move by VHP and all muslim organasations in INDIA should take it serious.Not only India but all non muslims countries should ba declared as DAR Ul AMEN.Unfortunatly almost all muslim scholars call the non muslim countries as DAR UL KUFER (Probably one of the reason of unrest in the world)which s not good for muslim- non muslim realtions.It s high time to declare this Fatwa beacuse it s the prime responsibilty of Muslim scholars to put an end to this emerging war between muslims and non muslims.This can be first concrete step by muslims towards world peace.

Because the 'Cristian' world has Democracy, Human Rights, Freedoms, Oppurtunities and Muslim world has Dictatorship, Repression, Unemployment etc. Muslims should be loyal to the countries they reside in. The laws of that country should be binding on people of every faith without discrimination.

Yara Derojia Totally agreed.Look at the innocence of WHP.They r expecting from Muslim scholars to come forward and declare a fatwa against fanatic muslims in India,a hindu country.These Muslim scholars r actually responsible for this bloodshed across the world.Have u heard a loud and uonanimous voice against the kilings of Pashtoons,the muslims from Muslim scholars in Pakistan generally and in Pukhttonkhwa specificaaly.They issue Fatwa with a lot of ifs and buts which provide justification for the brutal acts of Taliban +Alqaida.If these muslim scholars justify the brutal killings of mulim Pashtoons how they would declare the kiiling of Hindus in india at the hand of fanatic islamists as Haram.

I dont know what happened to the response to the above appeal to the Muslim organizations? Did they respond to this appeal or not ?

The same appeal should also be done to terrorists muslim groups for muslim countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan , Algeria , etc too where the religious terrorist even dont forgive the Muslim countries ,,,,and Muslim people as their targets.

No one has the authority in Islam to declare Hindus as non-Kafirs because they believe in Hinduism & they deny God Almighty Allah.instead of Allah they believe in hundreds of gods & godesses so how is is possible that they r not kafirs?

Wrora...One does not need to be physically present in a place to get news and information..It is the 21st century...Religious freedom in India is a reality.
Constitutionally and Legally: India has a secular constitution. It's secularism was manifested in recent past with a Muslim President, Sikh Premier and Cristian Leader Of Ruling Party. I agree that it reflects the situation in the upper cadres and echelons of society, but it is a momentous achievement none the less. There is no preference for a follower of Gita and Vedas in India.
Practically: The terrorist outfits in India are more secessionism-minded than religious terrorists. Religious bigots are represented by minor parties with negligible influence. Plus there growth is fueled by whatever crap Pakistan does in Kashmir and Delhi and Mumbai.
Popular Lifestyle: Indians revere the lifestyle icons without any religious prejudice. The Entertainment Industry has numerous Muslim figures. The most popular, The Khans, are Muslims. In the Indian cricket team, in the recent past 4-5 players were Muslims. (Kaif, Zaheer, Pathan Brothers). M Azharuddin captained India with distinction for 10 years.
